Nelson Mandela Park Public School to Open January 2013 |
Due to a change in the construction schedule Nelson Mandela Park Public School will open on January 7, 2013. Until that time, all students from JK – Grade 8 will attend Regent Park/Duke of York Public School on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 4 and will be welcomed by staff led by Principal Pearson. All necessary arrangements are being made to accommodate students and staff at Regent Park/Duke of York PS. A special information line has been set up for parents of Nelson Mandela Park Public School students where updates on the construction will be provided. The number is 416-393-9999.
Quick Facts - The original school building, one of the oldest in the TDSB, was built in 1853 and was previously called Park Jr. and Sr. Public School.
- The school was renamed in honour of Nelson Mandela on Saturday, November 17, 2001 at a renaming ceremony which was attended by Nelson Mandela himself.
- This new building will create a community hub that combines school, child care, recreational facilities and other services in partnership with the City of Toronto and Toronto Community Housing Corporation.
