Church St PS goes Bollywood

Church Street Public School students put on their dancing shoes to celebrate the school’s partnership with Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS).  On June 7, eighty students from grades three to six broke into a surprise Bollywood Flashmob for their teachers and classmates on the playground.

Teachers from NBS and Church Street PS have partnered to bring weekly creative dance classes to the students. “Dance is an exciting way to incorporate physical activity into the classroom,” says Anna Shum, grade 6 teacher at the school. “The students’ energy and enthusiasm is contagious.”  The initiative started six years ago and has introduced countless students to the joys of dance.

Church Street PS teachers have used www.sharingdance.ca, a website created by NBS, to help students hone their dancing skills. Resources developed for this site help encourage physical fitness and bring dance to schools and communities across Canada.
