Superman, JG Workman's Miracle Gecko
|
Kindergarten students at JG Workman Public School believe they have seen a miracle when Superman the gecko returned after he escaped from his terrarium last January. Superman could not be found anywhere even though the entire school searched weeks for him. The young students in Miss Mynes' and Mr. Pate's full-day kindergarten classes were worried as they knew it would be very hard for geckos to get water and food while lost in the school. As time passed, hopes of finding Superman alive faded. Then one day in May, teacher Melissa Mynes was the first to see Superman and she put him back the the terrarium right away. "It's a miracle and a great surprise," said Mr. Pate, the Kindergarten Early Childhood Educator. "Miss Mynes rushed to the staffroom to tell everyone. No one could believe it." "We saw him on the floor with Miss Mynes and his spots were smaller and he was really skinny," said kindergarten student Gelila. She added, "It is a good thing that our Superman did not die." Principal George Vlahos notes, “The TDSB character for June is perseverance. Superman is an excellent example of beating all odds and surviving. This gecko is a teacher for us all." Superman is now much smaller than his friend Lola but seems to be drinking and eating well. After 134 days away from food and water, he really earned his name Superman.
