Profile

Howard Kaplan was elected to the Toronto District School Board in 2010. He comes to the TDSB as the representative for Ward 5 with extensive experience, a passion for improving the lives and futures of our families, and a commitment to improving our community through education.

Howard has a strong connection to Ward 5, having lived here with his family for over 13 years. He attended Regal Road Public School, Oakwood Collegiate Institute, and Forest Hill Collegiate Institute.  He went on to Ryerson University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration, continuing his education at York University where he received a Bachelor of Arts, and received a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto.

Howard has two children, Ari and Elyse, who attended and successfully graduated from TDSB schools and he now has three grandchildren.  Howard has worked in Information Technology for 35 years, film and television, and took on a part-time job fundraising prior to his retirement. His life long interest in politics, social justice, and peace compelled him to run for office and his election to the school board in 2010 brought him out of retirement to serve his community and make a long lasting impact on the education. As Trustee, Howard is working hard for Ward 5 to break down barriers, protect the most vulnerable students in the ward and across Toronto, and ensure students have what they need to succeed.
