Gap Analysis on Employment Accessibility - Scarborough & East Toronto

Eligibility

The Scarborough Centre for Employment Accessibility is a fully accessible location open to ALL job seekers, including a range of disabled clients, unemployed/EI and Reach back clients, newcomers, women, visible minorities, Ontario Works, ODSP, Aboriginals, over 45’s, youth and Francophones.  

Services Offered

The Scarborough Centre for Employment Accessibility (SCEA) is a drop-in Employment Resource Centre to assist Persons with Disabilities (PWD) who are job ready clients to prepare for employment or self-employment, as well as develop the skills necessary to maintain that new employment. SCEA is also a Community Access Program (CAP) site.

Services include access to a variety of specialized related employment information, equipment, self-help resources, materials and tools. Walk in and wheel chair accessible services are provided to clients who require minimal assistance and who wish to use the resources available to them in the ERC. 

Resources include access to computers with large screen monitors, printers, Braille printers, hardware and software that will assist clients with visual and hearing impairment. SCEA provides access to the world-wide web Internet (including Web-4-All) access, telephones including TTY (sign language interpreters), fax machines and photocopying services. Clients have access to a variety o job search material, occupational directories and community information in hard copy and electronic format. All of our services are FREE. 

Workshops Offered

In addition to our regular Microsoft application classes for MS Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and PowerPoint, we regularly offer numerous specialized FREE tutorials/workshops (to name a few: resume/cover letter writing, interview skills, positive thinking, coping with disabilities, employment group sessions, etc), to assist you in conducting a successful work search:

Directions:

BY CAR

  • From Markham Rd and Hwy 401:
    1. Exit 401 and go south
    2. Before Lawrence Avenue, turn right into the parking lot entrance after the Volkswagon Dealership and before the Shell gas Station. Drive all the way to the back and you will see the Scarborough Centre for Employment Accessibility.
  • From Lawrence Ave:
    1. Go toward Markham Rd.
    2. The parking lot entrance is beside the Shell Gas station at the Smilin Jacks plaza.
    3. Drive to back and turn left and will see SCEA at the 2nd plaza.

Public Transit (Subway)

There are two routes you can take:

  1. From Kennedy Subway Station: take RT line to the Lawrence station, take the bus #54 traveling east on Lawrence Ave, exit the bus at Markham/ Lawrence intersection. Cross the street to the corner where the Shell Gas station is. We are at the rear of the 3478 Lawrence Ave. E. (there is a Public Optical in front).
  2. From Warden Subway Station: take the Markham # 102 bus traveling northbound on Markham Rd, exit bus at the intersection of Markham /Lawrence . Cross the street to the corner where the Shell Gas station is. We are at the rear of the 3478 Lawrence Ave. E. (there is a Public Optical in front).
