Inner City Advisory Committee (ICAC)

The ICAC advises the TDSB on matters concerning learning opportunities for students in "inner city" communities and on Board policies and programs addressing the socio-economic circumstances of students and families across the system, including the Model Schools for Inner Cities program.  The membership is comprised of community resource persons, parents, educators, designated TDSB staff and trustees appointed by the Board.  The ICAC is co-chaired by five trustees on an alternate basis: Trustees Tonks, Cary-Meagher, Kaplan, Smith, and Glover, and a Community Co-chair, Mr Aim Mujib, elected in 2011.

UNICEF 2012 Report on Child Poverty
“In a downturn,” says Sharon Goldfeld, National Director of the Australian Early Development Index, “the first thing that happens is that children drop off the policy agenda.” Yet it is arguable that the child poverty rate is one of the most important of all indicators of a society’s health and well-being. For the here and now, it is a measure of what is happening to some of society’s most vulnerable members. For the years to come, it is a pointer to the well-being and cohesion of society as a whole.”
