Vision & Hearing



The Gift of Sight and Sound Program provides vision and hearing screening for students in Toronto’s highest need school communities. Students who require further assessment are directed to health care professionals. If students require glasses and/or hearing assistance devices, they receive these free of charge.

The major objectives of the program are to:

  • Administer selected vision and hearing screening procedures
  • Notify parents or guardians that their child has been identified as having a possible vision or hearing impairment to facilitate further examination by an specialist
  • Establish follow-up procedures to assist identified students in receiving appropriate care
  • Provide Optometrist appointments in school locations
  • Organize hearing follow up appointments with Canadian Hearing Society (CHS) or a Physician
  • Provide free glasses and hearing aid devices to students as required
  • Track results of the Screenings, follow-up care, and Evaluate the Program outcomes
