Welcome to Educational Partnerships
| Educational Partnerships are flourishing across the Toronto District School Board in many of our 558 schools. The outcome of these partnerships is exciting and innovative enhancement programs where all participants benefit. The Toronto District School Board, through its partnership policy and mission statement endorses educational partnerships that:
With support from our partners through collaborative educational partnerships, we're expanding the learning experiences of our students. Partnerships involving external agencies, professionals and paraprofessionals compliment the work of the Board's professional Support Services staff by providing assessment, counseling, therapy or treatment services. School principals in consultation with central Support Services may create and implement such partnerships consistent with the framework set out in the board's External Partnerships - Supplemental Student Services procedure.

By bringing a real baby and parent into classrooms, Roots of Empathy allows children to observe the baby’s development, and the interaction between baby and parent. The relationship between the parent and child is a template for positive, empathic human relationships with universal and far-reaching implications to shape how children deal with each other today and to lay a foundation for their future as parents and citizens.

In this experiential learning setting, the baby is the "teacher" which the instructor uses to help children identify and reflect on their own feelings and the feelings of others. They are therefore less likely to physically, psychologically and emotionally hurt each other through bullying and other cruelties. Messages of social inclusion and activities that are consensus building contribute to a culture of caring that changes the tone of the classroom.
Six TDSB schools serve as Centres of Excellence demonstration sites that reflect the diversity of Toronto. ROE programs at these schools will be showcased to the rest of Canada and the world as the leaders and innovators of Roots of Empathy instruction and will host Canadian and international media visits. In addition, 97 ROE programs will be located equitably across TDSB.
The agreement was signed and celebrated in May 2009 at 5050 Yonge St. |

| Kids Science lets TDSB students… explore learn evolve In this partnership, the Kids Science program gives students direct access to SickKids’ scientific leaders in a fun and informative setting in hopes of broadening their perspective towards careers in science. Top researchers/scientists inspired Bloor Collegiate students with hands-on activities and demonstrations including a mini “CSI” chromatography experiment. They discover that scientific research is not as abstract as they may have once thought while experimenting in hospital labs. Another valuable aspect of the program is the mentorship that is provided for five students from Bloor Collegiate Institute in a summer mentorship program in SickKids’ laboratories that helps with their future education and career choices. (www.sickkids.ca/kidsscience) "I liked that we got to see the cells under the microscope, I felt like a REAL scientist! I also liked that we were allowed to really be adventurous in the labs and everything was explained really well.” - Grade 10 student “The most interesting event is the lab visits. It’s the first time I’ve been in state-of-the-art laboratories. It’s a great experience for me and I’ve learned a lot I would never have learned without this program.” - Grade 11 student
