Student Transportation

The success of the TDSB’s transportation service depends on the cooperation of parents, teachers and the transportation companies we work with.

Please note, some of these guidelines may vary by school (i.e. Sunnyview and Metro School for the Deaf). Please talk to your school principal if you have any questions or concerns.

Parent Responsibilities

  • Parents/guardians are encouraged to maintain open communication with the driver about unique characteristics of their child (i.e. behavioral concerns)
  • If someone else will be picking up your child, the bus company must be informed
  • Food or drinks are not allowed to be consumed on buses
  • Your first contact for transportation concerns are your Principal

Cancellation

  • Temporary cancellation: Please inform the Transportation Company before 7 a.m. if your child will be absent or needs a ride only one-way on a given day
  • Permanent cancellation or change in pick-up/drop-off location: Please advise your school Principal of any changes at least three days in advance. In September, changes need at least 10 business days notice.

Pick-up and Drop-off Times

  • Students must be ready five minutes before the pick-up time. Parents/guardians must also be prompt in meeting their child at the drop-off time.
  • If your child misses the bus, you must take them to school. Missing the bus regularly may result in lost transportation privileges.
  • Please be aware that traffic, weather, students’ behaviour and promptness of caregivers meeting the vehicle, may impact bus schedule
  • Transportation schedules may vary throughout the year
  • Transportation is not organized to accommodate work or daycare schedules

Driver Responsibilities

  • Students will be transported to and from the nearest curbside in front of their homes
  • No student will be left by a driver unless a student is met by the designated parent/guardian/caregiver
  • If a responsible person does not pick up the student, the driver will:
    • Drop off the remaining students and return to the residence;
    • Deliver the student to the emergency contact person if available and nearby;
    • Return the student to the school;
    • Or, deliver the student to the nearest Police division or Children’s Aid Society
  • Drivers must notify parents of any changes in pick-up or drop-off times
