Go Green

We live in an era with incredible environmental issues and we must be part of the solution. As a major organization in the community, the TDSB is committed to implementing a Climate Change Action Plan across the TDSB. We’ll focus on three areas: mitigation, adaptation and education.

The TDSB has already made a tremendous commitment to the environment with its successful EcoSchools program, which has not only certified more than half of our schools, it has become a model of best practice for school boards across the country.

Building on this success, we also plan to:

• Nurture and continue to grow our EcoSchools family
• Approve policy and develop a school energy plan to align the TDSB with the Federal Green House Emission targets of 20% by 2020 and 80% by 2050
• Design and install solor photovoltaic systems on up to 20 schools per year 
• Switch all schools to once a week garbage pick-up and use cost savings towards environmental initiatives
• Publish an annual TDSB Goes Green sustainability report
• Work with the City of Toronto to develop a Community Energy Plan

By involving today’s students, we can ensure a greener future for tomorrow’s learners.
