Beginning Teachers Program
| The Toronto District School Board is fortunate to have hired over 4000 Beginning Teachers in the past 5 years. This represents over 25% of our entire teaching population. In 2009, we retained 99.40% of our first year hires. In alignment with the Ontario Ministry of Education’s New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP), our goal has been to develop job embedded supports for Beginning Teachers that go beyond retention and “survival” and focus on developing instructional excellence in the classroom. In doing so, we are making an investment in the future of the teaching profession and impacting directly upon the human development and learning of our students. Our Beginning Teachers bring a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for learning and a genuine commitment to meeting the diverse needs of the students they work with. Working together, our goal is to provide a continuum of professional learning and growth opportunities for the first 5 years of their teaching career. This site provides a brief overview of some of the exemplary programs and professional learning opportunities available within the TDSB.
