“où il fait bon vivre”
"A Great place to be" for almost a century In 1915, the Toronto Board of Education bought 6 acres of land on Gledhill Avenue near the dirt road that was Danforth Avenue. For two years, students were taught in two portables and then in 1917, almost 300 students started in a new Gledhill schoolhouse. By 1925, Gledhill grew to 30 classrooms. As the Danforth developed into a busy retail street, Gledhill peaked at 1200 students. With some changes to meet safety regulations, Gledhill retained its structure for almost 60 years. In 1983, the Terry Fox Recreation Centre opened. This addition, consisting of a large gym and a community room, reinforced Gledhill’s role as “a great place to be.”

Gledhill makes a difference!
The Gledhill community is committed to making a difference locally and globally. Regular food drives support the food bank at Centre 55, movie nights support a variety of charities, and school-wide fundraisers support worthy causes such as cancer research through the Terry Fox Foundation and building a school in Ecuador with donations from the annual Read-a-thon for Free the Children.
Welcome to Gledhill!
Gledhill Public School is located on Gledhill Ave., just north of Danforth Ave., between Woodbine and Main. Gledhill is a dual track school (English and French) with approximately 520 students. Gledhill has a culturally diverse population with many students whose second language is English.
Gledhill is a shared-use facility with the Terry Fox Recreation Centre, the Gledhill Child Care Centre, and the East End Drop-in Centre.
Technology at Gledhill
Gledhill’s students use computer technology both in the classroom and in a library lab. Wireless access has been installed in two areas in the school to allow laptops and interactive Smartboards to be shared between several classrooms. Breakfast Club
Our team of parent volunteers serves a nutritious breakfast every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to help Gledhill students get a great start to the day. The program is supported through parent donations and the Toronto Foundation for Student Success.
Helping the Planet!
Gledhill is proud to be a Gold EcoSchool. Students, staff and community members work together to conserve energy, reduce waste and learn about and contribute to a healthy environment. Partnerships with the TDSB and agencies such as Evergreen have led to ongoing efforts include the Footprint Garden, the Outdoor Classroom, and the development of a Schoolyard Master Plan.

Gledhill students stay active at recess, daily physical activity, physical education classes, and in teams and extra-curricular activities. Gledhill athletes participate in cross-country running, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and track and field. Our dancers practise weekly and participate proudly in the annual TDSB Folkfest.
