Glamorgan Junior Public School is located in a densely populated area south of Highway 401 and west of Kennedy Road. The school property was once owned by William Loveless and his family.  The school was opened in 1974. The school name, Glamorgan, comes from a county in Wales, and the school logo is the Welsh Griffen. Children who attend Glamorgan can easily walk from the apartments, condominiums, and townhomes in the area.  A beautiful park adjacent to the school provides many recreational facilities for the students, including a playground, basketball court, baseball diamond, and a splashpark.

Numeracy Focus

Glamorgan has been selected as a Numeracy Focus School for 2011-2012. With the support of the Family of Schools Mathematics Coach, our goal is to improve the achievement levels of students in Grades 1 to 6 in the area of mathematics by developing teacher expertise in effective mathematics instruction. Teachers will be involved in job-embedded professional learning strategies to collaboratively plan units of instruction, participate in co-teaching lessons, and to meet as grade teams to discuss and assess student work.

Eco Schools

Glamorgan has gone green!  We are proud to announce that we are a platinum status Eco School. This means that our students and staff have mastered the skill of recycling, reducing and reusing. We are well on our way to improving our current practices and adopting new ones, with our student “Eco Owls” leading the way. We have designated Wednesday as a “Walk to School” day, introduced a monthly eco award, planted trees in a forest and at a botanical garden, and created an outdoor classroom.   As well, the grounds at the front of our school are looking great, due to the hard work of our garden club.

Health and Wellness

Our students have daily opportunities for supervised physical activity (e.g., Gym classes, Classroom Activity, House League, and various sports teams). We provide leadership opportunities through our Student Athletic Council and Junior Coaching program. Toronto Public Health and The Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada offer services that enhance our programming.

The Arts

An Artist-in-the-School Program involved 460 students in creating a three dimensional mural depicting the Glamorgan ecosystem.  Professional performers are booked annually for all our students to experience.  There are arts specialists on staff who provide expertise and extra-curricular opportunities for our students (e.g., Primary Choir, Folk Dance and Arts & Soul).

After School Programs

The school houses a YMCA "Before/After" school program.  The Boys and Girls Club of Canada also operates a free after school program three days a week. This program offers homework help, nutritious snack and organized games.  There are many evening permits which offer programs to the community (e.g., International Language Classes and sports activities).

Settlement and Education Partnerships in Toronto

Glamorgan is involved in the Settlement and Education Partnerships in Toronto (SEPT). The program aims at connecting families with settlement services in the community. The Toronto Disctrict School Board hopes to promote student success by facilitating the settlement and integration of newcomer families.  There are workshops for parents held throughout the year.
