Learners, Leaders and Global Citizens

Our vision is to inspire students in their journey toward independent, critical thought and responsible action - developing Learners, Leaders and Global Citizens.
 
Arlington Middle School has the unique honour of being the first authorized two-year International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program in the Toronto District School Board. The IBMYP has been designed for adolescent students. The program aims to enable students to build upon a spirit of discovery, develop an understanding and passion for learning, become effective communicators, develop a sense of personal and cultural identity, gains insights into local and global issues, as well as develop a sense of global responsibility.

IBMYP Philosophy


The IBMYP is a philosophy-based program that is centred on five Areas of Interaction. The Areas of Interaction help students make connections between subjects and learn that knowledge is integrated. They are embedded into the subjects and are a vehicle for refining conceptual development by creating a deeper level of understanding. The five Areas of Interaction include:

Health and Social Education
Community and Service.

Global Education


As an IBMYP school, our aim is to develop internationally minded people who, recognize their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, and to help create a better and people oriented world. In order to do this, IB has generated a profile which aims to embed character education into learning. It is based on the ten characteristics and they are:

Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced and Reflective.

Under optional attendance, students apply for the Extended French program. Starting from Grade 7, students will have the opportunity to receive French instruction from our specialist teachers for more than 40% of the school day. The instruction includes various subjects such as  Geography, History, Drama and Core French.

The Arts


The Arts program encompasses visual arts, vocal/instrumental music and strings. Delivered by our specialist teachers, these subjects help students develop  their ability to express ideas differently. Students are taught various art styles, genres and history helping them to express their views and interpretations of various art forms as well as create them.

Health and Physical Education


The Health and Physical Education program delivered by our specialist teachers, exposes students to a multitude of learning activities. Students will learn to develop fundamental movement skills that promote healthy and active living. Our Specialist Health and Phys. The IBMYP philosophy is embedded in each of the subject areas. We align our subjects based on teacher expertise. Students will receive in-depth instruction whether it would be through our MCORE (Math, Science and Technology) and ECORE (English, Geography, History, Drama) programs.
