Earl Beatty Goes Gold
Thanks to the ongoing greening efforts by staff, students and parents, Earl Beatty has the distinction of being an Ecoschool with Gold Standing.
Through and grants acquired through our Ecoschools and Greening committees, we recently celebrated the completion of our outdoor learning garden and expansion of the butterfly garden. Most recently, our schoolyard has become more environmentally-friendly with the addition of shade trees. We have now set our sights on acquiring Platinum!
Safe and Caring School Culture
The staff and families at Earl Beatty have worked together to establish a safe and caring environment at the school. Our code of conduct is based on our motto of Learning Together and outlines expectations for student conduct. These expectations align with the TDSB character education qualities that we focus on in our daily announcements and monthly assemblies. TRIBES is taught in every classroom to help students develop social skills and strategies for dealing with conflict. Teachers use the TDSB Character Development Resource Guide to develop common understandings and approaches to living and learning together.
Learning Through The Arts
At our school we value of integration the arts across the curriculum. Artists in dance, visual arts, music and media from the Learning through the Arts organization work with our classroom teachers to plan and implement lessons that enable students to experience the curriculum in rich and meaningful ways. Choreographers and fabric artists have also worked in our school.
Sports at Earl Beatty
Students at our school have many opportunities to participate in athletic activities. In the fall, over 200 students from grades 1 to 6 take part in our cross country running program. Over the years, our teachers have coached a wide variety of teams that compete with other schools in the TDSB. In the spring, students in grades 2 to 8 participate in track and field events.
Our halls are alive with the Sound of Music
Music has always been an important part of the culture at Earl Beatty. Beginning September 2010, we will have a school choir, ensemble choir and Glee club. Itinerant teachers teach band and strings instruments to older students. Our music teacher works with all the students in the school. Students perform regularly in concerts and musical productions for the community.
Technology
Our computer lab is always filled with students who are using technology as a tool to explore the curriculum. We have worked with our parents to fund portable Smartboards which are being used in many classes. We use school blogs and our website to communicate effectively with our school community.
