Our School Focus
Kew Beach School ensures effective curriculum delivery in all subject areas. We focus on strengthening reading, writing and math skills through the use of effective questioning techniques that encourage higher level thinking. We use information technology to enhance teaching, learning and communication skills.
Focusing on Character Development, we encourage students to set high standards for behaviour and to make decisions that are empowering so that they have the knowledge, skills and values they need to become responsible citizens. We strive to ensure that strategies are in place so that all students are successful.

Our Unique Location
Kew Beach Public School is located in The Beach area of Toronto with 445 students from JK to Grade 6 . The current school was built in 1963. The history of the school dates back to 1889, making it one of Toronto's oldest schools. Located just one block from the expansive beach shoreline of Lake Ontario, the school community has access to many recreational facilities such as the boardwalk, bicycle paths, swimming pools, soccer fields, tennis courts, parks, skating rink and library, as well as many shops and restaurants, all within walking distance. Easily accessible by transportation, the school is located on the Queen St. streetcar line.
Library and Information Technology Resources
We are integrating the use of computer technology, interactive Smartboards, multi-media presentations and web-based programs to build the communication skills of all students. Computers in the classrooms and in our library computer lab provide access to the curriculum through technology and offer continuous learning, communication and presentation opportunities.
Arts Programs
We maintain an enriched arts curriculum with regular music classes, experienced music teachers and opportunities for participation in band and strings programs in the junior grades. We feature student performances in concerts and musical productions. Visiting visual artists, musicians, authors and performers enhance our classroom programs.
Keeping Active
Kew Beach participates in the Toronto Schools On the Move initiative and Daily Physical Activity focusing on building fitness into every child's daily routine. We have a variety of sports teams and offer the Swim to Survive program. We hold school-wide events like Track and Field Meets, Play Day and the Terry Fox Run. We enjoy the many local recreational facilities.
Community Outreach
Students, staff and parents support many community outreach projects by holding school-wide activities that build community support for local agencies such as Community Centre 55. Special events provide annual fundraising for national agencies such as the Terry Fox Foundation, the One X One Breakfast program, Juvenile Diabetes and Free the Children.
