Ellesmere-Statton Public School is a large school of approximately 620 students, servicing a culturally diverse community in the Kennedy Road and Ellesmere Road area. It is the amalgamation of two schools, Ellesmere School (S.S.#5), originally built in the 1840's, and Wendell Statton Senior School, built in 1973.
At Ellesmere-Statton, we emphasize a strong link to our school's history, and have a number of important traditions, including community barbeques, strong co-curricular programs, athletic programs, student recognition and values assemblies, and a growing community partnership.
For all of our students, we are committed to providing a learning environment that is safe, positive, nurturing, and respectful.
Caring and Safe School Culture
We will continue to foster and build a safe, nurturing, positive and respectful learning environment at our school. The creation of a safe and caring school climate is a collaborative effort involving students, parents, staff and community members. Through our use of the Tribes TLC process and Character Education Assemblies we are continuing to create a safe and caring learning environment for all.
Our Focus
(1) Our students are encouraged to ultimately be responsible for their actions and as a staff we focus on the development of progressive consequences when considering student behaviour. (2) Teachers will use effective assessment strategies such as DRA and CASI to assess students strengths and areas for improvement. (3) Staff will implement our School Improvement Plans in Mathematics and English.
(4) Professional development will be provided for staff to examine practices to assist in moving students currently below Ministry Standard (especially those in levels 1 and 2) to greater achievement levels.
