Northview is proud of its tradition of providing a vast array of programs for students. We have high expectations for academic achievement and encourage active participation in school-wide activities. Our safe and caring community embraces the diversity of all students and works to meet the needs and interests of all. Students are provided rich and challenging curriculum that enable them to successfully acquire the essential skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world. The specialty programs we offer give students enrichment opportunities and industry certification.
2010-2011 Features
Northview offers programs in CyberARTS, Academic Program for Gifted Athletes; Honours Mathematics, Science & Technology; Focus on IT and Construction Trades Coop. As the home of the Canadian Young Scientist Journal Northview and TDSB students have opportunities to publish original research articles. Northview maintains strong bonds with community groups to promote partnerships. Weekly tutorials, guest speakers, volunteer opportunities for students- leadership development, peer tutoring are provided to students.
Many Programs, Many Choices
Our diverse programs, such as the Culinary Arts and Visual and Performing Arts, offer students a variety of secondary education opportunities. Flexible and unique programs have also been designed for students requiring literacy, numeracy, ESL and Special Education support. Northview is a great place to learn. Together, staff and students work to make Northview an academically challenging, caring and safe community. Our belief is that the greatest learning takes place when positive relationships, mutual respect and preservation of dignity are developed and practiced among all persons in the school building.
Many Supports, Many Successes
Northview takes care of our students. New Canadians are supported by out Settlement and Education Partnerships in Toronto (SEPT) workers and participate in the Newcomer Orientation Week program to get acquainted with our school. Our support system includes caring teachers, school staff plus a Child Youth Worker, peer mentoring, homework help and endess athletic events.
Involved Parents, Involved Community
Parents and community members have been actively involved with Northview to provide valuable support, input and suggestions. Opportunities to participate include the School Council, Parent-Teacher Interviews, Grade 9 Parents Curriculum Night, Spring Grade 9 and 10 Parents Course Selection Night and many, many more.
Winter Events
Some winter events include: Parent-Teacher Night, Arts Fest, Winter Employment Fair, Carnival Day, Music Night, Destination Northview and Grade 8 Parents' Open House.
Spring Events
Some Spring events include: Parent-Teacher Night, Talent Show, Music Night, Summer Employment Fair, Prom, Carnival Day, Athletic Banquet, Recognition Assemby and Graduation Ceremonies.
