Toronto District School Board

School Council Workshops

Introduction
Congratulations to school councils who have held successful elections and are now focusing on support parents and students through an array of events and activities. Each year the Parent and Community Engagement Office provides workshops across the system to support the important work of school council.

The Finance Department welcomes you to another school year at the TDSB. We look forward to working with new and returning school council members.

School councils play a key advisory role to their school and they also enjoy the possibility of raising funds to help enhance the educational experience for their students. The role of Treasurer is an integral role of managing the School Council’s finance and bares a lot of responsibility. School Council funds are the responsibility of all members of the school council and that is why specifically all members of the executive team are encouraged to attend the School Council Financial Information Session.

At the School Council Financial Information session, you will learn:

  • About the funds available from school budget to assist the council with operational needs
  • How to access funds in the Budget for the council
  • The difference between Operational and Fundraising funds
  • About the School Generated (Non-Board) Financial Plan (purpose for collecting funds)
  • Appropriate use of School Generated Funds
  • What can be supported with School Generated Funds
  • Process for collecting School Generated Funds
  • Process for safeguarding School Generated Funds
  • How to deposits funds and issue payments
  • About monthly reporting to the Principal and School Council
  • About Semi-Annual and Annual Reporting to TDSB
  • School Cash Online and more!
