Support Services: Occupational Therapy & Physiotherapy

Occupational Therapists (OT) and Physiotherapists (PT) at the TDSB provide services to improve school performance for students with Physical/Health and Developmental disabilities. They address function and productivity with a focus on the following areas: Seating and Mobility, Gross and Fine Motor, Visual/Perceptual Skills, Sensory, Activities of Daily Living, Life Skills, Experiential Learning, and Transition and Community/Home Support.

All OT and PT staff are graduates of accredited University programs with specialist Masters or Bachelors degrees and are regulated by professional colleges (College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario or the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario). All OT and PT staff at the TDSB also have experience in Pediatrics and School Based Practice.

Services We Provide

We provide consultative services that:

Focus on the Student

  • A wide range of support for at risk students
  • Individualized assessment
  • Detailed professional reports
  • Strategies and recommendations for student programming and performance
  • Assessment and recommendations for student therapeutic and adaptive/assistive devices
  • Facilitate funding for and acquisition of equipment
  • Liaise with community supports/agencies
  • Support for ongoing transition and experiential learning

Focus on School Personnel

  • Consultation regarding student's performance/reason for referral
  • Programming suggestions as outlined in detailed professional report
  • Training and demonstration related to recommendations and strategies to school staff and parents as appropriate
  • Professional development
