Excellence Awards -- Frequently Asked Questions

What are the TDSB Excellence Awards?
The Excellence Awards is our opportunity to honour and celebrate outstanding TDSB individuals and programs. Recognizing our staff not only celebrates their accomplishments and efforts, it inspires others to excel in their own roles.

Who deserves to be recognized?
TDSB staff — both individuals and groups – who go above and beyond to support students, staff, parents and/or community members throughout the system.

Who is eligible to be nominated for a TDSB Excellence Award?
Any TDSB individual or group is eligible. A maximum of 10 individuals may be included as part of any program or project nomination.

What are the selection criteria?
Submissions are assessed against criteria guided by the Board’s Vision for Learning, Integrated Equity Framework and Service Excellence. Ultimately, the question is: “How does this person/group go above and beyond every day in support of staff, students and/or the community.”

Who can nominate?
Anyone! The nomination can come from staff, students, parents or community members.

When and where are the recipients celebrated?

The Awards ceremony takes place on Monday, May 15, 2017, at 5050 Yonge Street.

How can I nominate someone for an Excellence Award?
To start, you need to gather two letters of reference and one statement of recognition. The statement of recognition is an opportunity to deepen the nomination and can be written by the nominator. Then, you can complete the online nomination form. The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 4 p.m.

How long does the online nomination process take?
Once you have all three required pieces of the nomination package, the online nomination process will only take about 15 minutes to complete.

When is the nomination deadline?
The deadline for applications is Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 4 p.m.

Can non-TDSB staff win an Excellence Award?
No. Excellence Awards are for staff recognition and are only open to employees of the TDSB.

Are programs from the current 2016-17 school year eligible?
Yes. Any current/recent program is eligible for nomination.

Will nominees be notified that they were nominated?
Yes. All nominees will receive a personalized letter congratulating them on their nomination as well as informing them of those who contributed to the nomination. A copy of the letter will also be filed in their personnel file.
